OPEN BURNING REGULATIONS
The following is a very basic
overview of the open burning regulations for the
General Provisions:
An EPA permit is required for nearly all fires within the limits of
Ceremonial fires may be issued a permit under the following conditions:
1.
Less than 5 feet
by 5 feet and burn less than 3 hours
2.
Not to be used
for waste disposal
3.
Fuel used shall
minimize emissions and air contaminants
Permits may be issued for Disposal of Agricultural Waste under
the following conditions:
1.
The fire does not
create a visibility hazard on the roadways, railroad tracks, or airfields
2.
The fire is
located at a point on the premises not less than 1000 feet from any inhabited
building not located on the premises
3.
It meets the
above listed general provision requirements NOTE: Must notify EPA in advance
Above listed general
provisions will apply
Agricultural waste fires and residential
waste fires consisting of brush, wood, leaves, grass, and similar materials
generated on the property that are 1000 feet from a neighbor’s inhabited
building DO NOT require a permit.
Location
To Obtain a Permit
Permit applications may be
obtained at the fire station during normally staffed hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.,
7-days a week. Permits may also be
submitted via email to either Chief Winkler or Capt. Lloyd at the following
addresses: JWinkler@sgfireems.com or DLloyd@sgfireems.com. There is no charge for permits, and they may
be approved for a range of dates to allow for weather considerations.
